Bagua – Eight Symbols

Bagua are eight symbols used in Taoist Cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts. Each of the eight symbols consists of three lines, each line either “broken” or “unbroken.” The “Broken” line represents yin, unbroken represents yang.

In Chinese Philosophy yin and yang describe how seemingly opposite or contrary may actually be complimenting, interconnecting, and filling the blank spot for each other in the natural world. Many tangible dualities (such as light and dark, fire and water, expanding and contracting) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality symbolized by yin and yang. What looks to be contrary, appears to be the same.
